Socially Engaged Arts Integration

Art

Our artists educators represent a wide range of creative skills across the artistic disciplines including theater, music, dance, film, digital and multimedia. interdisciplinary. We connect this network of artists in educational settings to include students in both studio work as well as large scale public art installation.

Advocacy

Culturally responsive teaching recognizes that the lived experiences of students and their curiosity about their own culture and the cultures of others is an incredible asset in the classroom. We approach each residency by aligning quality artistic technique with a research and themes based approach across the arts, humanities, and sciences.

Community

Cultural conscious curiosity of individual and community identities are essential to the creative process. Education programs are build around specific community needs and deliberative facilitation process that engages community stories to build greater empathy and cooperation between the individual and the community.

Afterschool and Summer Enrichment Programs

coLAB has created regular programs designed to give students training how to artistically respond to complex issues that affect our communities. Participants take workshops in movement, voice, performance, design, writing, and production giving them the tools to become generators of their own art all while they have the opportunity to network with other artists and teens interested in similar work. These programs are built with strong partnerships with other arts and social advocacy organizations.
