Testimonials

Carl Shulz (Volunteer)

“Why I volunteer for coLAB. It helps me feel connected to the local art community. One of the hardest parts of being an artist is just getting people to notice your work, and coLAB does a great job of helping spread the word about local artist. It creates a nice feeling of community.”

Andrew Saunders (Managing Director)

“To be a member of coLAB is to share in the collective faith that art not only enriches, educates, and guides us, but that we bear the burdens and the questions of life together. It’s not a place for those that only want something better for themselves, though we all seek personal satisfaction on some level. The main difference is that in coLAB we succeed BECAUSE of our friends and our community, not in spite of them.”

Suzanne Lee (Marketing Director)

“When I joined coLAB Arts three years ago, I quickly learned I had found a family rather than just another arts organization in the Hub City. CoLAB has allowed me to keep working on my own art while helping others who haven’t had the same fortunate opportunities that I’ve been lucky enough to have. From the first festival to the first gallery reception, my journey with coLAB has been so amazing that I know no matter where life takes me, I won’t ever be that far from New Brunswick.”

Theresa Francisco (cLAB Gallery Curator)

“My first experience with coLAB was as an intern in the Summer of 2010. I received the opportunity to learn crucial marketing skills and how to handle artist and guests in a professional manor. As my internship progressed, I was given the chance to write my first press release, install exhibitions, curate, and show my own work in the gallery. I wanted to become a leadership member because I saw so much potential and room for improvement in how the organization functioned, the aesthetic quality of the gallery, and the people coLAB attracted. Most of all, I have a great passion for curating and managing the gallery. It is really exciting to expose local artists that have never had the chance to show their work before and present them in conjunction with my personal analysis. I kept a steady interest in coLAB and maintained a large say in the art exhibitions and quickly worked my way to the leadership position, which I gained Fall of 2010. There is still a lot of work to be done with coLAB, but that leaves so much room for a personal agenda. If one feels compelled to make change or move the organization in a certain direction, it is completely possible. There is a lot of freedom for everyone who makes an effort to step up and cause direct change. CoLAB really allows you a stepping-stone to develop programs in the arts that you personally find rewarding and beneficial to the community. It is a great starting point for future endeavors, as well.”

Morgan Kazanjian (Former Intern 2010-2011)

“As an intern for coLAB, I have had a wonderful experience and learned a lot. The main benefits I got from my internship was learning about marketing for events and exploring different avenues for it, and
learning about the process of planning and installing a show and running opening receptions. Interning for coLAB has been an invaluable experience that I’m incredibly grateful for, and I look forward to continuing and growing my professional relationship with coLAB.”

Kevin Horton (Former Intern 2011)

“Interning at CoLab was a valuable experience for me in the way we brought together so many different community members from different backgrounds – artists, musicians, or others who normally might not have the chance to meet. I learned a lot about holding and organizing events and then executing them successfully. I also learned about handling and installing art in a gallery space. I really enjoyed my time at CoLab and I think it was a great experience.”
