Sentient is an exploration into the heart of conflict and how the process of confrontation and resolution leads us to evolve as individuals. Through movement, text and input from the audience, Insurgo Stage Project deconstructs a conflict into five emotional stages: Surfacing, Mustering, Confronting, Reckoning, and Reveling.

The text provides a poetic bare bone structure, to which the audience adds content with their input in the form of personal experiences written on index cards, and read throughout the performance. The movement provides visceral substance and structure to a narrative that is less linear and more driven by our sentient senses, those that emerge in an a-rational manner and prompt us to evolve and grow. Like a meandering river we are defined by our rough spots, the choices we make to surmount them. Our crooked curves and straight edges lead us along our journey as we continue to mold the ever-changing shape of ourselves, our emotional lives, and consciousness.

Dancers: Lora Botwinik, Kimberly DeBenedictis, Heather Favretto, Morgan Hille Refakis and Meagan Woods.

Sentient is being presented as part of Breakthrough Arts Fest in repertory with Morgan Hille Refakis’ The Day of Two Noons on May 16 and 17, and with Pandora Scooter’s Milestones: Dumping on May 18.
