The third installment of ongoing exhibition program, Resonate, is being held in conjunction with the New Brunswick Cultural Center and Crossroads Theatre Company as an after-reception for Daniel Beaty’s Emergence-See! Resonate is a music, performance and visual arts fusion event whose function is to provide a platform for local artists to simultaneously exhibit their work and receive immediate feedback from a social network of artists and art-enthusiasts.
Resonate No. 3 includes selected works by Lenny Correa, Ryan Gutierrez, Jen Park and Matt West, and is curated by coLAB Arts associate producer, Reid Bingham.
Correa will be exhibiting drawings and paintings created via the use of machines and toy robots. Correa’s work questions not only the act of drawing but the value of the art object itself and is driven by the artists “subconscious desire to automate the act of drawing” and leave himself out of it.
Gutierrez draws themes and motifs from the comics he read as a child. Gutierrez is creating a cinematic graphical work based in the fantastic, while simultaneously dealing with contemporary social issues.
Park’s video art is made up of thousands of individually designed and manipulated frames with a result that is both painterly and surreal.
West’s sculptures create exciting new juxtapositions and associations of ideas, cultural histories, and questionable futures.
