This play reading will take place November 6th, 2011, 7pm-10:30pm on the Cook/Douglas Campus of Rutgers University, in the Art History Hall, 4 Chapel Drive, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

When: November 6th, 2011, 7pm – 10:30pm

Who: Ken Wydro

Where: Art History Hall, 4 Chapel Drive, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

What: Orphanage reading is one step toward preparing this play for a production in Germany and Austria, and is intended to uncover the story’s essential parts through its effect on a fresh audience. CoLAB will also present portraiture work of two visual artists along with a reception before and after the reading with complimentary wine, food, and music.

Event Details: Ken Wydro is a published author, produced playwright and lyricist, veteran Broadway and off- Broadway producer of more than fifteen productions, public speaker, and a Director of Programs at the Mama Foundation for the Arts, New York [a 501(c)3 education organization in Harlem]. A recipient of a BA degree in Psychology and Comparative Literature from the University of Rochester (NY), a Master’s Degree in Theater from the University of California at Berkeley, and a member of the Analytical Psychology Club at the C.G. Jung Center in New York, Mr. Wydro utilizes his education and training in both psychology and theater arts to hone his craft as a writer. Especially in Secrets, he concentrates on the subconscious elements of the human mind.

Secrets chronicles the intimate relationship between the founders of psychoanalytic theory, Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. From their revelatory first meeting to their eventual falling out, this play follows the true events of the development of a completely new way to analyze the human mind through the direct effect of subconscious desire. The subconscious binds the characters in this play; it drives them to affectation, to love, to laughter, to intimate friendships, and quite often tears them apart. It is this subconscious drive, as Secrets describes, that will ultimately decide the actions of the characters in the play and the consequences they must face.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – coLAB Arts is pleased to present, a two-week exhibition featuring the work of the emerging artist, John Cambridge, curated by Theresa Francisco. Our Opening will take place on Wednesday August 31st from 6:30-8pm at the First Reform Church (9 Bayard Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). The free reception will feature complimentary wine, food, and live music.

When: August 31st to September 10th on Wednesday-Sunday nights at 8pm

Who: The art of John Cambridge

Where: First Reformed Church
9 Bayard Street
New Brunswick NJ 08901

What: Wither Wander You? will be exhibited along with coLAB’s New Brunswick Theater Festival production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the First Reform Church occurring from August 31st to September 10th on Wednesday-Sunday nights at 8pm

Event Details: John Cambridge creates a fantastical world of exotic bugs and creatures that corresponds beautifully with the magical, surreal nature of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Cambridge’s installation not only showcases bugs as aesthetically pleasing specimens but also introduces them in scenarios that emphasize human qualities. These taxidermy creatures project human thoughts and emotions as they dance, play, and fight around the viewer.

When John Cambridge was a child, he would spend day and night outside peering under rocks and logs looking for creepy crawlers. Now, years later, Cambridge is preparing to enter the Rutgers Graduate School of Entomology. He has been working with insects as an art medium for three years. The vast majority of his pieces are comprised solely of insects that he has found on his own. Cambridge does not use wild caught, commercially sold insects because this has led to a decrease in the natural frequency of many of the larger beetles in parts of Southeast Asia. Cambridge hopes to inspire more people to consider what is under the microscope not only fascinating but also elegant and meaningful.

Our Opening will take place on Wednesday August 31st from 6:30-8pm at the First Reform Church (9 Bayard Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). The free reception will feature complimentary wine, food, and live music.

Whither Wander You? will be exhibited along with coLAB’s New Brunswick Theater Festival production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the First Reform Church occurring from August 31st to September 10th on Wednesday-Sunday nights at 8pm.

John Cambridge creates a fantastical world of exotic bugs and creatures that corresponds beautifully with the magical, surreal nature of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Cambridge's installation not only showcases bugs as aesthetically pleasing specimens but also introduces them in scenarios that emphasize human qualities.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – coLAB Arts is pleased to present Waving to Solidarity, a one-month exhibition featuring the work of the emerging artists, Dave Peters and John Leschak, curated by Theresa Francisco. Our Opening and Second-Look Reception will take place on Thursday August 18th and September 15th from 7-10 PM at coLAB Arts (49 Bayard Street, 3rd Floor, New Brunswick, NJ 08901).
When: Thursday, August 18 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm
CLOSING RECEPTION: September 15th – 7:00pm – 10:00pm

Who: Dave Peters and John Leschak

Where: coLAB Gallery

What: Waving to Solidarity offers the viewer a glance at both meditative solitude and painful alienation through the artists’ formal conflicts with and emotional connections to their environment and community. Dave Peters and John Leschak both work in a similar vein but their individual messages are quite opposite.

Event Details: Dave Peters focuses on serene, biomorphic forms and quiet landscapes that are cerebral, captivating, and dream-like. Peters opens his subconscious and paints what comes naturally. This method often conjures up the repetition of imagery, which has created common narratives or visual elements in many of his paintings. Even though Peters is very detail oriented, he wishes to keep his paintings ambiguous and open for personal interpretations. Dave Peters graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in Spanish Literature. Though colorblind, Peters is a self-taught painter and is working towards a full-time career in the arts.

John Leschak uses heavy symbolism to make a direct commentary on modern society. He contextualizes human passions, vices, and fears to illustrate their effects on relationships and the community at large. Leschak believes his images, though often depict scenes of individual despair and powerlessness, can bring about a need for action and empowerment. John Leschak is a practicing labor law attorney at Weissman & Mintz and immigrant rights activist.
