Event Series
CoLAB Arts is host to many events, not just art exhibitions, but also theater, dance, festivals and much more. On this page you’ll get an inside look at our core, our Gallery, our Event Series, and our Educational Outreach programs.
coLAB Gallery Space
Guest curators are guided through the process of refining an exhibition idea, contacting artists, developing materials about the artist and presentation, and organizing an opening reception. Artists are advised on selection and presentation of works by the guest curator and resident curator for coLAB.
“A goal of coLAB Arts is to not single-handedly operate projects of its own design, but to focus on cultural and artistic interests of the community while remaining true to the principal that art finds its own direction…”
This year coLAB Arts is proud to present Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream for the 2011 festival.

Event Series
The Orphanage, the only new play reading series in downtown New Brunswick, featuring the work of exciting young emerging artists and creating a home for the theater arts community.
Breakthough Arts Festival, featuring the works of emerging artists of all media, from the main stream to the fringe, featuring the coLAB Puppet Slam and new works in theater, music, and dance.
musicLAB, providing a space for musicians to experiment and collaborate, coLAB Arts brings the hottest music to New Brunswick, keeping its finger on the Hub City pulse.
In conjunction with the New Brunswick Theater Festival, coLAB has developed a theater education curriculum that serves the local underprivileged and bilingual populations. We have residencies in Perth Amboy working with middle school students and in New Brunswick High School. The goal of this program is to promote and cultivate young theater artists, using what’s learned in class as a tool towards creating a final production that draws from the students’ individual language, talents, and experiences.
Educational Outreach

Workshops, coLAB Arts is committed to cultivating future generations of sophisticated artists and arts audiences. We review our arts programming to develop working models that can be replicated for strong teaching tools for young people. Two programs that are currently in development are our NEXUS (visual art) and MAKE IT (mixed media) programs, both designed by coLAB Arts leadership.
