COLLABORATIVE ARTS presents its 2009-2010 Season: highlighting community, music & comedy, theatre, and festivals to be presented in New Brunswick, NJ from September 2009-June 2010.

COMMUNITY

Artist Salon: Held every third Sunday (2-5pm) at Sanctuary (135 Easton Ave,
New Brunswick, NJ 08901). Hosted by Pandora Scooter and Elena Callahan, this event provides a space for artists and art-lovers to discuss, share and explore all aspects of art and artistry. Session topics are decided on a rolling basis.

dancePARTY: On Friday, September 4, Saturday, October 31, Thursday, January 28 and Saturday, May 8 at locations to be determined. The best dance party in town returns! Mark your calendars now for the sickest New Brunswick nights of the year.

MUSIC & COMEDY

musicLAB: On Saturday, November 21 and Saturday, February 20 at George Street Playhouse (9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). Featuring the best of homegrown New Brunswick music including pop, punk, hip hop and R&B. Pulling from both bars and basements, coLAB keeps its finger on the Hub City pulse.

Make It: On Saturday, November 7 at 7pm at Cabaret Theatre (corner of Nichol and Suydam) and Saturday, April 10 (location and time TBA). An exciting exploration into creating music— part jam band, part audience interaction, and an all-enthralling music experience.

Pandora’s Box: On Saturday, October 17 and Saturday, December 12 (locations and times to be announced). Hosted by Pandora Scooter, this hilarious variety/comedy show features stand-up comics, sketches, musical guests, spoken word artists, and a whole lot of laughing!

THEATER

I Heart Kant: Running from Thursday, December 3 to Sunday, December 13 in the black box at George Street Playhouse (9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). Written by Ken Urban and directed by Dan Swern, this is the New Jersey premiere of a play about four women trying to find happiness in suburban hell.

Puppet Slam: On Saturday, January 9 at 8pm at George Street Playhouse (9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). An evening of short, varied theatrical mini-plays for adults that use (and sometimes abuse) puppets for part or all of the drama. This is New Brunswick’s only home for some of the most innovative puppetry work in the region.

The Orphanage: Held one Sunday every month (7:30pm), this is the only new play-reading series in downtown New Brunswick, providing a home for local theater artists as well as a safe environment for playwrights to develop their work.

FESTIVALS

Film Festival: On Thursday, November 12, Wednesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 14 (locations and times to be announced). This event aims to showcase and support local film and video artists while bridging New Brunswick filmmakers with the national and international scene.

Member Showcase: Running Friday, February 12 to Sunday, February 14 (locations and times to be announced). Come get a free preview of the many works in consideration for next summer’s Breakthrough Arts Festival.

Breakthrough Arts Festival: Held in Summer 2010 (locations and times to be announced), this event is all about breakthrough artists and breaking through for audiences. The place to see and hear the most electrifying art in New Brunswick,

Collaborative Arts’ (coLAB) mission is to cultivate a hip, mindful, and inclusive Hub City community of artists, audiences, and critics empowered to create inspired and inspiring art. For more information about coLAB and upcoming events please visit us at www.colab-arts.org.
