coLAB Member Showcase II

Sunday, July 26 at 7pm, located at George Street Playhouse (9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ). $6 tickets are available at the door and ONLINE HERE.

coLAB’s core includes some of the most talented and exciting artists in New Jersey. The Membership Showcase is an opportunity to see their work realized in stripped down productions. Featured work includes theater, film, music, and dance. Friday, July 17 feature coLAB members Dan Swern and Jack Leary. Sunday, July 26th features members Jessica Lipman and Avianna Perez.

  • Untitled, a short film by Jessica Lipman.

Street corners, basements, classrooms, bars, dance studios.  Abandoned
spaces, forgotten spaces. Dancers of Insurgo Stage Project, a New
Brunswick-based experimental dance and theatre troupe, use multiple
forms of expression to take up, and take back, New Brunswick spaces.

Jessica Lipman is a Studio Mentor in the Rutgers English Department’s
Plangere Culture Lab, and is the Collaborative Arts Series Coordinator
of coLAB Film Festival.  Currently, she is the resident videographer
of Insurgo Stage Project.  She made this film in collaboration with
Insurgo Stage Project’s director, Avianna Perez, as well as the
dancers of Insurgo Stage Project.

  • Untitled, a new solo dance piece with text by Justin Woo and Avianna Perez. Performed by Avianna Perez.

Intention, objective, purpose, direction, aspiration.  In her latest work,  Avianna Perez explores these ideas in hopes of arriving at a new understanding of her intention as an artist (and as a human), and why these questions are important.

Arthouse

Arthouse November 2008

March 27, 20097pm-3am

The theme of this ArtHouse is

SOCIAL MOVEMENTwhat is social movement? it’s how we talk, how we listen, how we love, how we celebrate, how we fight, how we struggle, how we learn, how we express, how we communicate. how we live.Hannabeil and Midnight Blue will be headlining, as well as featured as the house band for the stylings of a diverse collection of poets and performers, all expressing their own understanding of Social Movement.(showcase performers TBA)Insurgo Stage Project will conduct a Social Movement Experiment, engaging the audience in a performance piece dealing with social interaction and observation.Visual artists will engage their topic in their own right: exploring an extension of the theme of social movement —> being an artist is a political statement. what statement am i making?EON (Empower our Neighborhoods) will step to the mic and speak on their social movement. And YOU will take part in a living/evolving installation piece that will document the entire evening as it unfolds…WHAT IS ARTHOUSE?ArtHouse celebrates the artists who stay and fight; to all those who struggle to build something new, original and promising. A place for those who work to make New Brunswick a city you’re proud to be from and excited to come home to. In the spirit of its origins (the first ArtHouse in 1999 was a benefit for World AIDS Day), ArtHouse will continue to open the mic to all art forms, including the art form of change. This means that ArtHouse will continue to be a forum that invites dialogue concerning all aspects of life in New Brunswick, including social and political movements. ArtHouse considers these aspects of life (and of the community) just as important as and intrinsically connected to the enjoyment and creation of art.For the past 10 years, as more and more venues have been shut down and torn down, artists and organizers all over New Brunswick have transformed basements, garages, living rooms, and attics to host us artists in exile – with no other spaces to go. We hang words from the rafters, wrap music around basement poles, rearrange living rooms into galleries, dance on palettes. Share in the abundance of art that makes New Brunswick pulse.GET INVOLVEDCalling all artists/musicians/creators/organizers: interested in performing at ArtHouse? Insurgo Stage Project presents ST/ART

ST/ART is a dance/theater showcase featuring the ensemble members of the Insurgo Stage Project. ST/ART will be featuring Sentient, choreographed by Insurgo artistic director, Avianna Perez and previously premiered at Collaborative Arts’ recent Breakthrough Arts Fest. Other original works premiering with ST/ART include Undercurrents choreographed by Meagan Woods, Pennies on the Dollar by Kim Benedict, and a new dance piece by Heather Favretto.

Sentient uses improvisation, writing exercises, and discussion to hone in on what it is that the ensemble is itching to express. Choreographer serves as moderator while the dancers invent the material.

ST/ART is being produced at the Cabaret Theatre located at the corner of Nichol and Suydam Avenues on the Douglas College campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Performances are Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 at 8pm. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
